Description
This is a unique hybrid cross developed by University of California Davis viticulturist Dr Harold Olmo in 1948. The Emerald is a cross between Riesling and Muscadelle. Production of a high quality Riesling like wine in the warmer regions of the US was nearly impossible prior to the introduction of the Emerald. This vine is widely adapted to a range of different temperatures producing high quality juice in warm regions and in cooler regions similar quality only with a fuller body.
The Emerald is planted in a wide spectrum of locations worldwide and has seen extensive use in California’s hotter Central Valley, Israel, and South Africa where its durability in warm climates routinely produces a delightful, light, aromatic wine.
Emerald pairs extrordinarily well with pork, shellfish, creamy suaces, goats cheese, and spicy Asian foods
